Why does my heart skip beats when I am laying down?
Posted by adminFeb 2
When I lay down to go to bed I can feel my heart skip a beat and or a fluttering feeling in my chest. I used my stethoscope to listen to it one night and the sounds I heard really scared me. The only time my heart doest this is when I am just about to fall asleep. What should I do?

Maybe when you are laying down it’s the only time you are aware of what your heart is doing. Pay more attention to it. You may find it skipping/fluttering on other occasions. I am always aware of my heart beating and feel it flip flop in my chest on occasion, but have never heard it skip/flutter when I’ve listened to it. My heart is strong and healthy even though it does wierd things sometimes. Don’t worry about it, but tell your doc anyhow next time you see her. I have 18 stethoscopes. What kind do you have? I love the heart.

Hi jr8izhott336; I noticed something similar when I was around 18, and it used to scare the heck out of me. I finally went to the doctors, and they confirmed it, a skip in my heartbeat. What they told me was (and I think they were smoking something) was that this was a result of teen anxiety, but they couldn’t do anything for it, ’cause they couldn’t find the cause. I delt with this for a long time but it has since gone away. Never found out what it was but, if it makes you feel better, i just turned 46. You should be absolutely fine. But get it checked just to be safe. Luck be with you. Cheers!

Have your doctor check you out.

I had this problem and went to the doctor only to find it was my Thyroid. It seems that heart problems can occur when the thyroid is not working properly. It was at its worst when I was laying down, watching TV, and meditating. It got better after I began taking levothroid.

You sound like you are having a problem with irregular heartbeat. This is something that can be controlled with medication. You need to go to a doctor and have a thorough check up and possibly a stress test. Your heart is probably skipping beats when you are up moving around also, you just are not aware of it. I would not wait, I would go see a doctor as soon as I could.
