Which of the following is more likely to save Hip Hop?
Posted by adminFeb 28
I just read this interesting article saying that those who refute hip hop complain that it often talks about violence and women and drugs, but any real hip hop fan knows a song like C.R.E.A.M. contains most of those things, but is one of the best hip hop songs ever.
So what is most likely to save hip hop from its current state of suck?
Is it artistic revolution with new ideas and good lyrical ability, or is it political and social consciousness in the music?
I’d like some opinions on the matter.
Thanks.

MY opinion on the matter is that there are an abundance of artists out there, as compared to years ago, when you had a couple handfuls to judge. The current hip-hop that is making it to the fore- front are the artists who are selling and making money. And normally since children who are the largest collective group buying up all of the albums in stores, the music is written so that a 12 year old could follow along. But that does not mean that artists who write to maintain lyrical depth aren’t around. They are there, they just aren’t in the front of the line and being blasted all over the radio and tv stations.

Nothing. Hip hop is dead. It died like 10 years ago.
Name one artist who has not already sold out to corporations and what people expect of them.
Now people who cant sing (kanye west) try to sing and then mask it over to make their voice hit the right notes.
I used to be a huge rap fan, but i couldnt take it anymore. Its all about money now, no longer about passion.
rock is dying too, but there will always be a handful of great bands every 10 years to keep it alive.
Rappers from the 90s are done. LLcoolJ, common, etc. they all sold out.
Most bands from the 90s are still together, or dead (literally. Killed themselves) The reason you dont hear from them is because they are doing their own thing, which is not popular, but atleast they’re not selling out.

I guess the two combined its not like one or the other, social consciousness combined with lyrical ability like Talib Kweli or Common is my favorite type of hip hop but sometimes you just want to listen to a chill beat or some mind fuck battle rap like Zion I or Elzhi. So I guess good lyrical ability because social consciousness should be left to a select few it loses meaning if everybody is busy talking about problems with society.

hip hop is way to commercialized and it’s becoming just a business before it was art…even common and mso def sold out by doing movies and commercials.
wu-tang is keeping it real because they’re doing exactly what they said they’ll do, and that’s global domination.
lupe fiasco and talib kweli are my saviours of hip hip.
nas sold out ro by signing with def jam and now recording verses with rick ross and young jeezy and other def jam artist.
hip hop is on life support, it needs a new heart.
no more autotune, no more plies’, soulja boy’s, lil wayne’s, gucci mane, young joc’s type rappers…we need something fresh that hasn’t been done yet in hip hop.
rock and roll is dying as well because everyone sounds the same, but rockers don’t sell out as much as rappers.
also, the roots even sold out by playing on jimmy fallon live.
right now hip hop is having a hard time keeping it real.

Blu has already begun to save Hip Hop.
Below the Heavens - Blu & Exile was probably the most refreshing hip hop album to come out in the past decade or so. You guys should check it out.
Hip hop isn’t dead, it’s just underground.

Hip Hop Lives but there are two forms, Commercial and Underground.
Commercial Hip Hop was twisted by record labels with money hungry ideas. They do nothing but release nelly change 50 cent to exploit black people.
Underground Hip Hop, i can’t explain it, the deep lyrics the smooth beats the relations with life.
People need to boycott commercial hip hop go underground, till under is over.
Underground is the only way hip hop can live.
