Where and what would I start with to make beats?

I am interested in making soul, funk, and hiphop beats and need advice on where to start. I want to start at the bottom with some basic technology, also something affordable.

FL Studio is pretty simple to learn and pretty basic. The good thing about it is that it has a lot of plug ins and options that you can add to make it advanced if you want, when you get the hang of producing. It’s also relatively inexpensive. You can download a free sample from their website flstudio.com and see if it works for you.
