Hip Hop = culture, a lifestyle
Rap = Music of that culture

Rap doesnt need music behind it, mostly about the lyrics whereas hip-hop has more rhythm. well thats my understanding.

To me, hip hop MC’s rhyme different than other rappers. Hip Hop Mc’s are more about tripping your brain out, rapping is more direct to the point, mostly gangster.
I honestly don’t associate a difference in my mind. To me, they are the same, the same culture, and the same lifestyle. Rappers rap, and so do hip hop artist, dont they? So rap and hip hop are ultimately the same.
But, if I were to make a difference, I’d say soulja boy and drake and the dougie makers and all those lame f*cks are all rappers and not hip hop MC’s. I’d call them a rapper and never call them an MC.
This is a good, confusing question.

Rap is just rap. Hip Hop requires music and singing. For example, if you combine the two, you get hip hop. But Rap is just Rap.
