Hip-hop is a sort of enforced culture that OFTEN goes with rap (but doesn't necessarily HAVE to) like graffiti, breakdancing and street "lingo". An example where this happens in a different musical style is heavy metal. Many heavy metal fans will have long hair, wear ripped jeans and heavy metal T-shirts, have the skull earring etc. and there are specific terms that go along with heavy metal ("that guy really shreds!" for a very good electric guitarist) but you don't have to use the slang and dress the part to be a heavy metal listener obviously.
