What should I expect from hip hop classes?
Posted by adminJul 21
My boyfriend and I signed up for hip hop classes, since we wanted to do something together, due to lack of communication for a short period of time, and we both love dance. Is hip hop dancing hard? What should I expect from it? What is the proper attire for the classes?
All help is appreciated!

At first, hip hop isn’t extremely hard. It’s a bit hard, because it’s just very fast-paced and energetic, and takes a lot of stamina. It’s not very hard, because the moves are relatively easy, and aren’t entirely too difficult. Besides, the teacher should be going slowly, and it should be easy to follow him/her.
Now, it does get harder, when and if (remember, IF) your teacher begins having you do moves where you need to get up onto your hands and hold yourself up. It is a bit difficult to get up at some times, but it’s not impossible. If you try, and just can’t seem to get a hang of it, you can have your teacher help you by supporting your legs as you go up into the position. That will give you more stability, and will make you more confident wwith trying the move.
As far as the proper attire, I suggest anything that is loose-fitting and comfortable. Jeans are NOT out of the picture, but I strongly suggest that if you wear jeans that you wear a pair that is loose and baggy, and not a pair of skinny jeans. When I got to do hip hop dances with my friends, I usually wear a baggy soccer jersey (which absorbs sweat), a baggy bear of sweatpants and sneakers. If you’re a beginner, I suggest wearing sweatbands on your head and wrists, because you will most likely sweat during the class.
To your main question, you really should expect to have fun. Hip hop dancing is a great way of exercising, and is a fun thing to do with your friends. I hope you enjoy your hip-hop classes! Best of luck!
