What does it mean when i have strange heart beats?
Posted by adminNov 29
Every minute(it started last week) i get this strange heart beat. I can feel it happening. This heart beat takes at least five seconds. I went to the cardiologist but they did not know what it was. One time when i woke up my heart was beating really fast that i had to go to the hospital but by the time i got there, it stoped beating fast. WHAT IS THIS?

It may be Paroxysmal Supra Ventricular Tachycardia, a very common electrical conduction problem occurring at the top of the heart in the atria. It is paroxysmal because it doesn’t occur constantly and when it appears, it will terminate just as randomly as it started. A Holter monitor would be warranted for this to try and catch the arrhythmia to document exactly what type it was; if the Holter fails to do this, an Event monitor would be then warranted. Please see your cardiologist to have these tests done.

Go to your cardiologist, tell him "Gee, I dunno" doesn’t cut it, and get a 24-hour Holter monitor or cardiac event monitor so you can get an EKG of these heartbeats when they happen. The cardiologist will be able to diagnose the arrhythmia from that and take appropriate action, if any is needed.

Sounds like Tachycardia (sp?). It basically means a temporarily abnormal heartbeat. It can be brought on by lots of things, stress being a big one! Each episode was different in what brought it on. Sometimes I’d be doing nothing at all, like sleeping. My cardiologist also found nothing. The EKG showed nothing, yet I felt it very definitely. My GP told me that I probably had an anxiety issue. I had it for years, then it suddenly went away almost completely. Get it checked out, but don’t worry yourself sick. Does it feel kind of like when you first start to go down a big drop on a roller coaster?

It’s a possibility that you have something called a PVC. If that’s the case, they’re harmless. It feels like your heart is skipping a beat — but, in reality, the wrong part of the heart starts the beat, so the heart has to re-set itself.
Over half of the population has PVC’s — and anxiety about them can definitely cause an increased heart rate.
If they continue, return to the cardiologist and ask for a stress test or a holter monitor.

Have your thyroid checked! It is a simple blood test (make sure they run the TSH, T3 and T4). Thyroid conditions can cause your heart to beat rapidly and do strange things.
