If hip-hop didn’t exist, then someone would invent it, because hip-hop represents the needs and feelings of the minorities in society which are as persistent as society itself.

Night clubs wouldn’t be as much fun, racism would most likely be bigger that it would be as now without Tupac.

Hip hop has impacted many different countries culturally and socially in positive ways. "Thousands of organizers from Cape Town to Paris use hip hop in their communities to address environmental justice, policing and prisons, media justice, and education."
See source below for pros and cons of hip-hop in the media.

it would be a much better place. my high school was 95% minority students and every single one of them listened it hip hop or rap. the music probably led most of them to believe it was cool to be a bad guy. but, hip hop isnt the only genre doing this, theres other stuff out there like metal that has the same effect

I’m working on this essay as well. Glad to know I’m not the only one applying for this scholarship.

Music influences more than most of us give credit for….as far as style goes…Without hip hop…our jeans might not have been so baggy…Urban youth would probably more into slam poetry…
…Or they would probably just go with whatever was left…and end up looking something like….

To me…hip hop is music…its my favorite music…so as far as music goes its very significant….but outside of music and writing it really doesn’t do anything for me because i still mainly just see it as music…My style of dress has minor influence…but very minimal stuff overall.

I think you should check the type of bullshit they play on the radio. That should answer your question. The significance is great, I just love the creativity and competition between everybody from back then and they spoke from the heart. They were the ones that paved the way for these wack ass commercialized artists you hear nowadays.

hip hop is my favorite music. without hip hop many people wouldn’t be able to express themselves, and many of the horrors of would be kept bottled up inside us. hip hop is a way to let go and enjoy your self

There would be less people wearing clothes that make them look like clowns. Less gangster wannabes, and yeah. I guess you know how I would feel about it.
To the people that said they would die without it: if you were born where there was no hip-hop, you wouldn’t miss it because you wouldn’t even know know what it was.

Hip Hop is a poem with a musical adaptation to it. Many famous writers have written poems that have inspired and changed the world through their words. The lyrics in Hip Hop (the ones that carry a message worth following) show an expression from the person who wrote them. Just like a writer trying to get his/her opinion out so people could listen to it. The world without hip hop would be a world incomplete. A world where people could not be heard. I grew up with hip hop. I have listened to songs about pain and sorrow, happiness, success, love, friendship, etc. They carry messages that could be carried for years on end. People quote lyrics to show how they feel and they inspire when people need inspiration
Hip Hop is a language that runs deep.
Maybe not mainstream Hip Hop but the underground does.
Hip Hop to me is art that runs my morals and thoughts. When I need a reminder of how life is and how I should keep going.

I’m 56-years old..and was always a R&R fan..but have become a more serious country music fan..most times I like to listen to "words"..as in Music Soothes the savage breast..
===
Hip Hop hasn’t really had a definitive impact on the world–
Hip Hop is more a reality based paranoid–concoction of hatred over (subjective)reality..
Hip Hop most times wishes to rationalize its place in poverty as..of its addiction–and its–paranoid-dreams..
===
I think in the modern terms of business..Hip Hop is its own temptation..
..rather than pursue a action of related truths..
Hip Hop looks inward for a hidding place in the mind of hatred–
Its more like paddling "upstream"..yet your temptation is all about some moonlight seranade..
===
Hip Hop can be most ridiculous..and immature..and even outright–filthy.

It would be filled with country and pop music. If there was no hip-hop, there would be no songs by Jay-Z, Mary J., 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Nicki Manaj and all the other awesome rappers.

ummm….less cleavage possible, no So You Think You Can Dance, and less white people (pathetically) trying to copy their black music icons

Less of almost everything bad, more METAL!!! Awaken,awaken, musta krakish.
Also, less, you know, grammar problems among kids, less racism, less gang stuff, no more people with their freaking pants down to their freaking knees, drugs would not be as widely accepted, people would not be widely exposed to the poison of the black eyed peas, less murder, rape, burglary, auto theft, muggings, other crimes, no jerks on the road that everybody hates that blast their freaking repulsive music out their cars butt, less profanity, less kids putting WAY too much emphasis on race, world peace, Dethklok would be the NEW black eyed peas, less gold being used for ugly jewelry that just shows how much of a jerk you are, gay may or may not still be used as an insult, less hate, more metal hate (metal hate is love), people would not be looking up to people who have conversations with themselves like a gary busey wannabe that curse every 2 seconds and talk about crimes and "big booties" with the very same generic beat in every rap song ever, notice I did not curse, because then I would be as bad as them, and I’m not rascist, too

I like hip-hop, a lot. I also appreciate all types of music, or any form of art, really. It doesn’t change the way that I talk or dress. But when I the emotions I feel when I listen to hip-hop… it’s different. It’s like I’m experiencing just a taste of what the artist is portraying.

although there are so many other good genres in music, to me a world without hip hop would be flavorless. hip hop stems from other types of music but hip hop also serves as a root to other music genres as well. without hip hop, would those other genres have emerged?…i think not.

"Sometimes I wouldn’t of made it if it wasn’t for you
Hip Hop you the love of my life and that’s true"
My life would definitely be different. It would be very depressing and miserable.

if there wasn’t hip-hop, then what would be all over the radio?
I personally don’t listen to rap or hip-hop but I dance to it.
There would be less graffiti because the majority of vandalism is advertisement for rap groups

Then I guess we’ll all just have to jam to accordion polka music (the next best thing) while driving in the car and dancing in the clubs.
oh well!
