Looking for new wave / progressive ideas on how to promote a hip hop album! share ideas with me! Perhaps some marketing strategies from another line of work would be interesting to hear. thanks in advance.

One of the most popular is - YOUTUBE!
If you are really good, you will gather fans and views. You will be known on the online community, well at least on youtube! But don’t underestimate the power of youtube, and other similar websites. There are artist community websites where artists upload their songs / lyrics to share.
I think youtube is a good start, you gain fans fast if people like what they hear. It is a good start to build up a fan base.
