Is Rap and Hip Hop a bad influence on children?
Posted by adminJan 15
I kinda think that it is because all this music just glorifies gangster and whorish behavior. I hate that these guys go around showing off how much money they make. It just doesn’t seem like something good to our society. Rap and Hip Hop will teach children to be thugs and whores. Rap and Hip Hop tries to teach children that women are just objects and I don’t see why the government doesn’t intervene and stop this type of garbage from being on television.

I think it is, not because of the beats necessarily (although it sounds pretty aggressive). My problem with rap/hip-hop (and many other pop songs too but mostly rap) is that they often promote things that shouldnt be promoted, like drugs, promiscuity, and violence. And, especially when you look at the music videos, they degrade women.
Most of my friends who are more aggressive towards people are the ones who listen to rap.

Rap and Hip Hop that has been brought out in the past couple years absolutely how ever it depends on who the child hears listening to the songs

Politrick. The pic shows it all.
In fact, if you were better informed, you’d realize that hip hop can produce mind provoking lyrics. But your beliefs are based upon an embarrassingly thin knowledge of emceeing so its OK. Some of it can be venting emotions, while I agree most shown to the public is trash. Don’t bash the culture and do this speech shit cause no one really cares. I answered mainly because I’m bored.

Seriously? How about you or all the other parents teach their children on knowing what is wrong or right even by what music they hear or what they may see. Your also very brainless with your music. You must be liberal if you have to have the government run things like this, the government can’t do anything right.

well, you make a good point. the music you are thinking of does glorify gangster and whorish behavior. it also teaches children to boast about their money and pimp all their hoes. but that’s rap. hip hop is something different. rappers are people like lil wayne, soulja boy, birdman, asher roth, drake, ect. a hip-hop emcee is much different. hip- hop emcees are people like krs-one, raekwon, talib kweli, rakim, nas, mos def, ect. emcees rap about the need for peace, equality, non-violence, and change of behavior.
like the great krs-one said: "rapping is something you do, emceeing is something you live."

yea you must of heard of mainstream rappers, all they rap about is hoes and money, rappers like eminem, nas, etc.. have meaningful songs, listen to mockingbird by eminem. no i dont think its a bad influence it depends what rapper your listening to..plus its freedom of speech basically, rap is like a poem with a beat….it government was to intervene we would be communist. ALSO they tried to do that to eminem with his lyrics i supported eminem when i was 9 back in 1999 when he came out with slim shady LP and 2000 when he came out with marshall mathers LP, i support eminem and other rappers 100%…..yes, even lil wayne…..

Oh please, spare me.
Rock is just as bad but I don’t see anyone trying to ban that. It talks about sex, drugs, suicide, death, depression and rebellion. They dress up like Halloween Ghouls 365 days. And slam dancing, moshing is "safe". So safe that I know a girl who broke her arm while slam dancing. Model citizens in the making.
At least rappers aren’t coke heads. The kids that listen to rock shoot up innocent people just because they are mad at the world. Then they turn the guns on themselves. Virgina Tech ring a bell? Oh and Columbine perhaps? Did you know Jay-Z (a rapper) donated the proceeds from his tour to the school?
So don’t go banning this art form just because you failed as a parent.

Well think about what your saying. The real problem lies in the roots of the parenting if your child is so lost in the world that he/she would emulate what they heard in a rap song. And you think they should take that stuff of TV? I walked downstairs and my 11 year old brother was watching Saw 2. If kids life choices are influenced by music, imagine what kids will be doing after watching movies like Saw.
And you are also insinuating that all rap is bad and about things detrimental to society, which it is not.
