Is hip-hop dead and has it given way to anti intellectualism?

My problem is not what the rappers are talking about all the time its hwo they talk about it and the skill and with the oldschool guys they were always conveying some sot of message or depiction for example
Kool G Rap-He paints pictures of the darker side of street life without endorsing it per say
Nas-Illmatic
and all those other guys but u just dont see guys with t hat type of skill anymore
so is hip hop dead?

Blah Blah Blah
There were indeed 90’s rappers who rapped anti intellectualism as well. Not those you named but believe me it was alot of shot’em up (insane in the membrane) rap going on then.
Now, its still rappers who rap about drugs, guns and girls and rappers with good intellectual raps.

There’s too many rappers for it to die. Theres as many rap haters as there is rap fans, and were the only genre who has the attitude to tell them to go f*ck themselfes….Rap is one of the most important and well-known genres, what would the modern day culture be today without hip hop/rap?…never gonna die, believe me.

your answer to your question can’t be found in the mainstream. if you think of hip hop as lil wayne, ludacris, and soulja boy, (all who misrepresent hip hop) then yeah, hip hop is dead. but if you look to the underground such as slug, sage francis, hieroglyphics, and others, you will see that hip hop is far from dead.

Hip Hop is alive. I suggest listening to some cats who aren’t mainstream.

Mainstream hip hop is trash compared to what it was during the 1990s. You have to listen to underground hip hop pal. It is intellectual and philosophical.

That’s still present in a lot of NEwYork rap, but its so saturated, you cant get to the good stuff, remember when GRapp them was out, it was bout 10 rappers, when Nas first came maybe 20, now like Ying Yang say its "5011" hundred rappers, and we as fan of the new milleniumm just dont have thpatientsts to dig for the best we want it presented to us in the form of the a major label, and they jusdon’tnt have the ear, nor have they ever, someone always brought them talent

Intellectualism is dead, and it has given way to censure and animadversion.

Its not dead, its still alive and well, its that the majority of Americans are stupid as fuck and don’t want to hear music that might make them think about what might actually be going on in their country. Back in the day all Hip Hop was underground the mainstream was sh!t like Poison, Debbie Gibson, Micheal Jackson, New Kids on the Block, Bon Jovi garbage like that. As hip hop became the dominant form of music in this country its only natural for record labels to start appealing to the lowest common denominator. They know 80-90% of an albums sales are generated by white suburban teenagers who have no idea what reality is about so they want to hear sh!t about gangsters and partying. I actually am happy with the state of hip hop these days I have always hated most of the mainstream music that comes out. there are plenty of great artists making music and with the interweb it makes it easy find the type of music that appeals to you. If you don’t like what the radio stations are forcing down your throat you just turn it off set up a http://pandora.com account and listen to what you like.
