There are 2 programs I recommend that do all you need.

FL Studio Producer Edition
http://www.homerecorder.com/product.php?pid=214

Ableton Live 6 LE
http://www.homerecorder.com/product.php?pid=542
http://www.homerecorder.com/product.php?pid=543

Both will allow you to record beats and record your vocals. You can also mix your music down to wav (better quality) or mp3 if you choose. Both come with sounds that let you start creating music right away. Later you can get more sound libraries as both programs can play virtually any wav or mp3 sound on your computer.

I also recommend getting an audio interface ( http://www.homerecorder.com/products.php?cid=38 ) and microphone ( http://www.homerecorder.com/products.php?cid=2 ) designed for recording. If you don't have one and you are using your computer's default sound card and a cheap consumer-based mic, your vocal recordings will suffer!

Lastly, I recommend reading "How to Build a Home Recording Studio"
http://www.homerecorder.com/product.php?pid=124
This e-book has great info what equipment is needed to successfully record at home.

Hope this helps!

Adobe Audition is a great solution for this, very easy-to-use intuitive interface but still quite powerful.

They have a free trial http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/

First off you need a good mic and a good sound card that has a mic jack. Most all computers have an onboard mic jack but it usually sucks.

Both of these programs allow you to mix music pre-recorded or beats or cuts fade in/out with lots of presets. I personally like this one a lot. It's pretty cool. It's called fruity loops or something like that. they have a free downloadable trial. http://www.flstudio.com/ The software is $450.00 I think but there's the link.

I also like SoundForge!
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/soundforgefamily.asp The price is in the link.
