I judge rapping and production separately, however, producers that rap make it seem like they can rap better than they actually can, due to the simple fact they know the beat pattern better than anyone else that’s gonna spit on it. Think Pharrell, David Banner, Q-Tip, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Rza, Dilla, etc.

I think the albums are more cohesive that way because the rapper can make exactly what beat fits them.

I give them my respect. If the album is good, I rate it good. If the artist can’t produce worth sh!t, then I rate it bad. I don’t rate it higher for self producing.

no I just rate the beats and lyrics together, regardless of who produced it.
Although I will rate an artist higher if they can produce too.

DEPENDS ON THE PRODUCTION VALUE, IF ITS AVERAGE TO SUPERB THEN HELL YEAH BUT MAY STILL GET RIDICULED FOR NOT USING A PREVIOUS PRODUCER , BUT IF IT’S BELOW AVERAGE IT WOULDN’T SWAY MY OPINION ANY HIGHER OR LESS.

yes, if it is good, because production is by far the most important element in making a good song.

Only if it deserves it.
Like personally, I don’t like Dre albums much because his lyrics suck. I really don’t like 2001 or The Chronic, and he rapped and produced. Same with J Dilla. The few tracks that he raps on, the lyrics are very mediocre.
But I love Aesop Rock’s lyrics and beats. So that’s one artist whose albums I give props to.

I give anyone extra props if they can rap and produce when I rate them as an artist, but I would rate their album the same way I would rate any other album.
