Am I able to call the police if my 18 year old brother beats me?
Posted by adminApr 14
My parents aren’t here, there at vacation. Now he’s telling me what to do like clean dishes and do everyhing. If I don’t do what he says, he hits me. He once punched me in the stomach and I had a hard time breathing at that point.
Help? I’m only 14.

First of all, contact your parents.
Second, see what bruises you have to show your
parents and /or the police. If you have no evidence, then it will be your word against his.

Next time he attacks you, kick him in the nuts repeatedly then throw him on the cement. He’ll never touch you again.

Yes you can. However, do you have any other family members you can call and talk with. Likely what will happen is the police may remove you from the house and put you in foster care until your parents can return home to get you. I really would suggest contacting your parents by phone or contacting another family member that can talk to your brother.

He’s over 18, so yeah…call the cops. Even better, hide some sort of recorder/video camera in the room that records him hitting you…that way you have proof for the cops and your parents.

It is called Assault and at 18 years old, can be arrested.

go somewhere else and call them, Be prepared for him to beat your head in after they come. Sleep with a bat. When he is in bed sleeping beat him like a step child

yes you should.

YES! You can call if he’s 12 and your parents are there. It’s called domestic violence. Have you never told your parents? Tell someone. It only gets worse.
Comment by ihatepenndot on April 14, 2010 at 3:14 am
Actually, yes. Even if he wasn’t 18 assault is a crime. I’d say get him on tape, show it to Dad, first. Unless it gets so bad you fear for your life, I wouldn’t call the cops. My older step-bro was 6 yrs. my senior, and we fought, HARD. I learned to win some, too.
If, and only if it gets so bad you fear real injury or death, kick him in the jimmy, run to a neighbor, call the cops, and stay at the neighbor’s until they arrive.
But, definitely, get proof for Dad, I’ll wager he beats your bully older bro senseless. I would were he my kid, doing it to his younger sibling.

omg… i can so relate but my brother is only 15…and he doesn’t always hit me…call your parents and ask them…stay at a friends…if this doesn’t work then yeah call the police… if he is 4 years older he has no right to hit you…hit him back maybe…and telling you what to do is like child labor…yes call the police.
Comment by Tseruyah on April 14, 2010 at 3:14 am
Your brother is not allowed by law to assault you. It doesn’t matter that you are related and live together. If he is beating on you, it’s assault on a minor and he can be arrested.
You may want to warn your parents ahead of time that you will call the police if he does it one more time.
Pick up after yourself and respect your parent’s home by doing the chores THEY tell you to do. Leave your brother’s dishes in the sink and his laundry on the floor.

Call your parents right away and tell them what you are planning on doing. (You could also try some responsible relatives.) If you want to call the police, the public does not have the right to interfere.
If you call the police they could put your brother in jail and you into the custody of child protection services. They will call your parents and their vacation will be over.

They’re right. It’s considered child abuse after age 18. He is treating you like a slave. That’s not right. If you let him see you call the police, it won’t be good. If you have a cell, use it. Or you could run to a friends house and use their phone to be safe.

At age 18 your brother is an adult and is assaulting a minor. Call the police the next time he hits you. Your parents should have made sure you would be safe before they left you alone with him. When they return from vacation, tell them what he has been doing to you and ask them to protect you from that jerk.
If it looks like he is about to hit you, leave the house and go stay with the neighbor until you can call other family members to come and get you.
Stay safe.

OK SO IS THERE NOONE ELSE YOU CAN PHONE???GRANDMA, GRANDPA, HOW ABOUT YOUR PARENTS>THERE MUST BE AN EMERGENCY NUMBER RIGHT? AREN;T THEY EVER GOING TO PHONE????? YA THAT IS JUST OUTRIGHT WRONG, AND YES YOU CAN CALL THE COPS ON HIM. I MEAN YOU CAN;T JUST KEEP THREATENING HIM WITH IT, YOU EITHER DO IT OR DON;T, I MEAN, THE COPS WILL PRESS CHARGES EVEN IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO, SO DON;T SCREW AROUND, IF HE IS REALLY BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF YOU THEN YA PHONE, BUT THERE WILL BE SERIOUS REPROCUSSIONS SO DON;T TAKE IT LIGHTLY, THE POLICE HAVE THE POWER TO CHARGE HIM AND TAKE HIM TO COURT EVEN IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND REMEMBER THAT.
SERIOUSLY WHEN YOUR PARENTS GET HOME YOU REALLY NEED TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT WHAT HE DOES. THE BEST THING TO DO, IS CLEAN UP, DON;T TALK BACK AND JUST STAY OUT OF HIS WAY. UNTIL YOUR PARENTS GET BACK, YOU REALLY DON;T WANT TO INVOLVE THE POLICE UNLESS HE SERIOUSLY HURTS YOU.
TRY TO GET A HOLD OF YOUR PARENTS, OR GRANDPARENTS, AUNTIE OR UNCLE,
IF YOU CAN;T STAY OUT OF HIS WAY, AND KEEP EVERYTHING TIDY,
BABY

try to call your parents first and if you can not control him then another one of your relatives like an aunt or uncle or grandparent…if it gets worse call the police
Comment by hwtraine on April 14, 2010 at 3:14 am
Yes, you can call police since he’s legally an adult and you are a minor. However, your parents would have to pay to bail him out of jail and come home early from their vacation which they would probably take out on you. Do you have a trusted adult that you can call nearby? Can you call your parents and have them threaten the living crap out of him? Maybe you have a friend you can go and spend the night with? Get your parents permission over the phone so that your brother can’t stop you. Good luck sweetie!

yes you have the right to call the police if are in danger! Try keeping your distance from him, staying at a friends house or telling your parents. You shouldn’t have to go through that abuse! please get help!

from what your saying not yet, first i would talk to a trusted adult like a grandparent or call your parents and ask them, and if it gets worse then yes call the police, to avoid getting hit for now listen to your brother. good luck and god bless.

Thats awful, go to the police right away, tell them what happend show them the bruise, and when your parents come back, tell them too !
Dont call the police though, go to the station, then you can show them the bruise first off, and tell them what an awful person he is.
Good luck.

Call your parents, see if they can talk to him. If that doesn’t work, go for the cops. No one deserves that.

tell your parents.because he’s not responsible.he have no business punching you.and if i were you i’ll ask my parents to let me stay with other family members.i wouldn’t tell you to fight him back or call the police because he could go to jail. let your parents handle it first

Your brother is a bully and yes call the cops! Once he’s behind bars he will wish he never hit you. Everyone in jail are older. I wish I could help and kick his a** for you.
