Recording my voice for a song over the instrumentals?

I’d like to record myself singing a song and then combine that with an instrumental version of it. Any advice on how to go about doing this? I have the instrumental version and a mic but I assume I would need a program to combine the two.

    I also run track but everyone I tell seems to think that it’s way to slow even my parents think I’ll drop dead any second. But is it ok to have 46 beats per minute just standing around.
