What should I go about buying to make some rap beats, and techno style stuff?

How would I go about doing this? Are most of the techno / rap beats put together digitally though the comp or is there a hardware device that I could buy? I have no idea where to start, any help would be much appreciated…

    I’m writing a paper, and I need some examples of rap lyrics involving stealing. I don’t listen to rap, so if you could please help me out with some songs that discuss stealing in them, I would really appreciate it.

    I got a couple freestyles to Kanye West and Lil Wayne instrumentals and I want to put them on Myspace but my friend said they would sue me for it.
