I was wondering what would I need to produce good techno beats?

I am a web designer and I want to produce some music for my flash clients. I was wondering what would I need to produce good techno beats. I would prefer that it would be instruments opposed to software because I already own Reason the program.

    Ive been hearing others say time and again that pacquiao is not going to make it big because he is so flawed technically? but in the end he beats up fighters who are considered to have better skills like Barrera,Ledwaba,Morales,charchai sasakul,whats the reason behind this.
